Sweet tips: Mascara guides

Some people find it tricky to apply mascara. It's like you want a nice long separated eyelashes, but you end up with clumps and fat eyelashes. Or you want voluminous curled eyelashes with va-va-voom factor, but you got straight thick heavy eyelashes. Sometimes, you break your lashes too.

Here's a 7-guides for mascara.

How to apply mascara properly?

Ace your mascara application with a 5-step process:

  1. Curl your lashes with eyelash curler.  Remember, you're not supposed to curl the root only - which give you the famous L-shape! It's a 3 steps point: Root, middle and tip. Don't pump too hard, it will break you lashes. Gently pump it from root and moving up to the tip. If you want it to be more curled up, just repeat the process again.
  2. Wiggle the wand left to right at the base of lashes. It's the mascara placed near the roots -- not the tips -- that gives the illusion of length.
  3. Pull the wand up and through lashes, wiggling as you go. The wiggling part is key because it separates lashes.
  4. In this final step (which I always skip), close the eye and place the mascara wand on top of lashes at the base and pull through to remove any clumps.
  5. Some people will curl their lashes again at this point. If you are one of them, remember to let the mascara dry or you will break your lashes.

Pick the right mascara

When picking a mascara, you should consider the formula you want.  Here's 4 formula that often advertise and usually combined:

1. lengthening - will give you long defined eyelashes.
2. thickening - will give your eyelashes volume and thicker lashes
3. waterproof - well, it's a water-resistant mascara. So you can wear it to the pool! (kidding!)
4. non-clumping - this one is usually have silk extract and glycerin. So, it feels lighter on you lashes. Regular mascara are water-based. So it's feel kinda heavy.

Do Not Pump Wand In & Out of Tube

This only introduces air into the tube, which will cause your mascara to dry out sooner than it should.

Wait to Blink & Double-check

Wait 5 seconds before blinking after applying mascara or you'll end up with mascara dots all along the lid. Always double check before you go out that your mascara is even, not smudged and clean.

Don't forget your bottom lashes

Applying mascara to bottom lashes can give you a wider eyes illusion. You can skip this step if you already have wide eyes. But don't go to heavy on applying them. A light touch is enough or you'll end up with clumpy lashes.  Put a tissue underneath you lashes for an easy application. This will give you clean smudge-free bottom lashes.

Apply vaseline before you sleep

This will help you to condition your lashes during the night. You eyelashes will thank you for this.
